The membership of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) has elected Dennis Pate, Executive Director and CEO of Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, to the position of Chair-Elect of the Board of Directors.
Pate will serve on the AZA Board of Directors as one of its thirteen members. Pate will be involved in every aspect of the national organization, including accreditation, ethics, animal welfare, and conservation.
Pate’s experience within the zoological profession is extensive, as he has gained experience working at Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo, the Oregon Zoo, Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, and now Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium.
His AZA experience includes serving on various committees, including Honors and Awards, Accreditation (Chair), Nominating, and the Board of Directors where he currently serves on the Executive Committee. He has also been a studbook keeper, (Species Survival Plan) SSP® Coordinator, and Taxon Advisory Group (TAG) Chair.
