The last few weeks volunteers have been loading thousands of bags with sand to help prevent flooding around the city. But the current supply is quickly being used and additional sandbags are needed.
City officials are calling for individuals and group volunteers. If you would like to volunteer are being directed to registers online.
Groups of 10 or more who want to help should contact Amber Miller of Omaha Parks, Recreation, & Public Property Department at 402-444-5947 for details.
Volunteers must be at least 19 years old. You'll need to bring gloves and a shovel to an assigned shift. Each Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, shifts will be divided into two time periods, 12:30-4:30 p.m. and 5-8 p.m.
