A UPS semi trailer truck carrying packages crashed into a ditch in Iowa City Thursday, spilling oil, but company officials say the status of the packages wasn't immediately known.

The crash on Interstate 80 nearly forced the semi trailer to roll over onto its top. The driver, only identified as an Omaha man, was treated at an Iowa City hospital. His injuries were described as non-life threatening.

UPS spokeswoman Susan Rosenberg says the driver has a 24-year safe driving record with the company. She says the company is aware of all the packages on board but it wasn't known if they had all been recovered.

Rosenberg says the truck originated in Omaha was eastbound to Davenport and beyond when it crashed.
