Update: Omaha Officer Wounded With His Own Gun
An Omaha police officer remains hospitalized in fair condition after accidentally shooting himself Wednesday morning.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Department said that while in the garage of his home near 168th and Fort streets, Officer Kirk Weidner, a two-year veteran of the Omaha Police Department, dropped his pistol, causing it to discharge just before 10 a.m.
Officer Weidner was wounded in the arm just above the elbow. A neighbor came to his aid and applied a tourniquet before Officer Weidner was taken to Creighton University Medical Center.
