Omaha's support of Offutt Air Force Base and the military has earned the city some national recognition.
Omaha was recently named Defense Community of the Year by the
Association of Defense Communities. The Greater Omaha Chamber was also recognized for its support of Offutt.
The award recognizes cities that work with their military bases to build partnerships that help the base and boost economic development in the community.
Recently, the chamber led an effort to purchase land near Offutt, so it would be available to the Air Force in the future.
And Omaha leaders have supported several different pieces of legislation designed to meet Offutt's needs.
