Tanesha Beard was sentenced to five to 10 years for arson and five to 10 years for assault. The two sentences will run concurrently.

In March, Beard set fire to a home at 135th and Atwood Avenue. Her two children, ages 10 and 12, initially took the blame for starting the fire in a bedroom where Beard's boyfriend, 37-year-old Jermaine Westbrook was sleeping. Police later discovered video surveillance at a nearby gas station that showed Beard purchasing the gasoline used to start the fire.

When firefighters arrived, Beard and all four of her children were outside of the home, unharmed. Westbrook suffered severe burns to nearly half his body. He initially was taken to an Omaha hospital, but had to be flown to Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center's Burn Center in Lincoln.
