Omaha United Way Receives Financial Literacy Grant

A partnership between a United Way organization in Omaha and Creighton University has been awarded a $149,000 grant to provide continued financial education to 180 families headed by single mothers.

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, which regulates all securities firms in the United States, has a foundation that provides financial education to underserved families. It has teamed with United Way Worldwide to provide more than $1 million in grants to eight financial literacy projects in the U.S.

Grant recipients announced Thursday include The United Way of the Midlands in Omaha, which has partnered with the Financial Hope Collaborative at Creighton University. Their program helps single mothers making less than $50,000 a year with nine weeks of classroom training, one-on-one financial coaching for up to a year, and monthly group meetings.
