Christmas continues to come early for several Heartland kids. First it was Bellevue Police and firefighters and Tuesday night it was Omaha’s turn.
Police, kids and their families were shopping at the Wal-Mart near 72nd and Pacific. One sergeant says this is his eleventh year doing their "shop with a cop” event and it never gets old, partly because the shopping sends an important message.
"We're police officers but we're not always there when there's something bad. We're there for good things too. It's okay to come to us when you're at a store and talk to us. We're people too. And if one of these little girls and boys want to become a police officer we'll take it,” said Sgt. Keith Williamson.
The annual event helps families that may not be able to afford gifts.
