Omaha Philanthropist Dies At 83

Omaha has lost a well-known philanthropist and volunteer. Suzanne Scott died at the age of 83.

Scott was married to Walter Scott Junior, chairman emeritus of Peter Kiewit Sons’ Inc. Together, the couple founded the Suzanne and Walter Scott Foundation, which has funded numerous projects across the Heartland including the Scott Aquarium at the zoo and the Scott Atrium & Education Center at University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Suzanne and Walter also gave a generous donation to the new cancer research center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The research center, which will be named after them, is set to be part of the comprehensive cancer center at UNMC.

Currently, Walter Scott serves as chairman of the Board of Policy Advisors for the University of Nebraska Peter Kiewit Institute, Heritage Services and the Omaha Zoological Society, among other
leadership roles.

Suzanne was a director of the Omaha Zoological Society and a former director of numerous community organizations including Joslyn Art Museum, The Salvation Army and United Way of the Midlands.

Suzanne is survived by her husband and six children.
