Omaha Couple Faces Federal Charges For Alleged Pot Growing Operation

An Omaha couple will face a federal judge on charges stemming from a large scale drug operation discovered by law enforcement.

Larry Christiansen, 33, and Michelle Christiansen, 43, have been indicted on two counts. Count one alleges that they conspired together for 2 years to manufacture and attempt to manufacture 100 plus marijuana plants.

The second count deals with possession of marijuana with the intent to sell and/or distribute it. Michael Christiansen faces a third count for weapon possession.

If found guilty on both counts, the couple could face up to 40 years in prison each.

An investigation into the alleged large scale drug operation at the couple's two homes in northwest Omaha yielded marijuana, money and weapons.

Police monitored three residences for months after receiving an anonymous tip and learning that two homes had unusually high electric bills.

Four hundred and twenty marijuana plants and eight pounds of dried marijuana were confiscated by police.

Law enforcement also obtained nearly $147K in cash, 3 vehicles and 2 motorcycles, over 90 silver bars, gold coins and various assault rifles.

Tom Wilson lives across the street from one of the couple's two houses and always knew something was wrong. "We never got a chance to really know them when they pulled up in their driveway, opened the garage door and immediately shut the garage door. So we never had a chance to walk over and say hi."

The Christiansen's houses were located in Pine Creek and Deer Creek in Northwest Omaha.

Tim Schuman lives in the area. He has four kids and he also thought something about the couple just didn’t fit into the family dominated neighborhood. “We did have suspicions, seeing the schedule they were running. They were in and out and would be there for one hour and they would never really talk to any of the neighbors. Even more shocking, everyone has kids and they're within two-and-a-half blocks of a school.”

The couple also has a town home apartment at 157th and Larimore where they apparently lived.
