Children's World, an Omaha care center for children with "medically complex" conditions is going to be closing its doors on October 1st.
A Children's Hospital and Medical Center spokesperson, Cherie Lytle says that the decision to close was made based on a number of factors.
Lytle cites a decrease in the number of families using the center, increased regulatory requirements, increased difficulty in families getting insurance approval and a new Department of Health and Human Services co-pay that begins for many families on October 1st.
The center opened in 2002.
Lytle says families won't be left in the cold, there is another resource that they can turn to. The Children's Respite Care Center is reportedly growing and expanding and could accommodate Children's World families.
Lytle says that staff is working closely with families at Children's World on other care options and that the process is going well.
