Old Market's Attendance Plan During CWS

The College World Series festivities kick off Thursday. Businesses are putting finishing touches on their set up, while the Old Market is trying to rally after a disappointing turnout in 2011.

It's another June and the CWS has Omaha and college baseball fans buzzing. In its first year at TD Ameritrade Park tens of thousands of fans flocked to NoDo, but south of the interstate didn't have the same success.

The Downtown Improvement District and other businesses are making sure local customers know that there will be enough space in Downtown Omaha to accommodate anyone who wants to head toward the river.

"While the College World Series is a marquee event for Downtown Omaha, it by no means fills the downtown capacity,” said Joe Gudenrath, the Executive Director of the Omaha Downtown Improvement District. "And we're letting the rest of the community know if they're coming to the game or just want to enjoy a nice atmosphere the old market and downtown have plenty of room and capacity.”

Gudenrath says there are 40,000 parking spaces east of 24th Street.

The Metro Circulator will bus people almost everywhere around north and south downtown. It runs 2 hours before and after baseball games. The Metro Circulator goes east on Cuming St., then south on 10th street, west on Jackson St., and then 16th and 15th back to Cuming St. It costs a quarter for a one-way ride.
