Wednesday, July 24
11 a.m.-6:30 p.m.
2828 South 82nd Avenue (Old Cinema Center parking lot)
Do you have old computer equipment that's collecting dust? On Wednesday, July 24th WOWT and Goodwill are teaming up for Drive for Drives -- a recycling event.
All computer equipment, working or not, will be accepted free of charge from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. near 84th and West Center in the old Cinema Center parking lot. The exact address is 2828 South 82nd Avenue.
Individuals are responsible for removing all personal data prior to donation.
Goodwill’s highly trained staff will safely disassemble the CPUs and sort the various components for responsible recycling. Goodwill Omaha is a partner in the national Dell Reconnect program. Some refurbished computers will be sold in Goodwill’s GoodBytes Computer Store at 72nd & F with proceeds from sales going to support the agency’s mission of helping people find jobs.
In addition to computer equipment, we will accept old cell phones which will be donated to the Women's Center for Advancement. Individuals are responsible for wiping all data from the devices; however, a technician at the WCA will also make sure all phones are cleared. Chargers are recommended, but not required.
According to the WCA, on average, it takes a woman seven times to finally leave an abusive relationship. Because of this, the WCA creates individualized safety plans for clients. Part of the safety planning is providing our client a cell phone for her (or her children) to call 911 during an emergency. The only number the donated phone can call is 911.
