When snowflakes fly it's hard to think about fly balls, but an old ballpark will get a new look this summer. The youth baseball complex at Gladiator Park in Irvington has been purchased by a nonprofit group.
Terry Mallott, who is one of five board members for the Play Ball Foundation, told Channel 6 News that an estimated $1.2 million will be spent on improvements for the complex in northwest Omaha. That includes more lights, an asphalt parking lot and field turf on some fields. At least two more diamonds will be added.
“We want to make this a place where local teams and those coming in for the College World Series tournaments will say this is where they want to play.”
The Gladiator Youth Baseball Program will continue to lease the field.
