If you celebrate Christmas, do you have your tree up yet? A Papillion man has put up 19 of them!
“I don't know what it is, but I just enjoy Christmas time,” says Bill Hornbacher and his home shows it. “I suppose it takes me 20, 30, 40 hours, I don't know. I enjoy doing it so I don't keep track."
“This is the kids’ tree. I love the Lifesaver tinsel, Lifesavers and M&M's.” There's also a family tree, a rubber ducky tree and an angel tree. "Silver tree and I'm a golfer. Anybody that plays golf should have a golf ball tree."
Bill doesn't just decorate these trees. In many cases he carves and paints every ornament on them. “I go around to every store and if something trips my trigger I start carving.”
Bill says in five or six years he plans to stop adding trees. But how many more trees is he going to add in that time? Not going to put a number on it? “No, I'm not going to put a number on it."
He admits there is a drawback to turning his home into a Christmas wonderland. “I've got to turn all the lights off before I turn the vacuum cleaner on or the place goes dark."
The only light needed in his basement, strands from 19 Christmas trees all decorated with a lot of skill and spirit. “I go into some stores and I have more Christmas trees than they have up for sale and I think my gosh, why can't they get into the spirit a little more?"
When asked how much his electric bill is, Bill said he had no idea because he doesn't even look. Where does he store it all? He has plenty of room on the shelves he built.
