Bellevue Man Shot To Death By Police

A Bellevue man is dead after an altercation with police Saturday morning. Police tell WOWT 6 News that what started as a simple noise complaint ended with officers shooting 48-year-old John Tilley.

Police were called to a residence near South 36th and Emiline streets at 12:23 a.m. to investigate the noise complaint. The homeowner, Tilley, was warned about the noise and officers left the scene.

A short time later, police saw a pickup crashing into parked vehicles along Emiline Street before it went over the curb, through a fence, into residential yards and through another fence. The truck rammed three police cars. It was then officers opened fire killing the driver, who turned out to be Tilley.

One officer was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, treated and released. Those officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave per department procedure pending an investigation into the incident.
