No progress has been made on a promise to build a new pharmacy in Benson that was connected to a controversial site in Dundee.
After building a new CVS pharmacy at 49th and Dodge, the company told Channel 6 News several times of its intent to build another store at 72nd and Maple, but the site remains an empty lot. There's a chain-link fence surrounding the southeast corner location.
Former Nebraska state senator Shelley Kiel says CVS was not entirely honest in dealing with the city when making the deal. “Promises were made to City Council people, as long as you support us building the CVS in Dundee we'll go forward with the building in Benson. It hasn't happened yet and Benson people, when a promise is made, expect it to be filled.”
A sign listing a CVS store number has also been added to the site. Since the site used to house a gas station, environmental concerns have to be met before the site can be redeveloped.
