Nebraska's jobless rate in January was 4.2 %. Only North Dakota with a jobless rate of 3.8% was lower.
The Nebraska Labor Department said Thursday the state's
unemployment improved from December's adjusted 4.3 percent rate. One year ago the January rate was a full 5 percent.
In Iowa the news is not as good. State labor officials say Iowa's
unemployment rate remained steady at 6.1 percent in January.
Iowa Workforce Development said there were 102,100 people out of work in January. That's down 500 from December, but about 900 higher than in January 2010, when the jobless rate also was at 6.1 percent.
Both states have jobless rates significantly lower than the national rate of 8.9%
