While the new UNO logos are unveiled inside the Embassy Suites conference room the new Maverick gear is being set up in the lobby of the building.
Mike Kemp says, "We made the change to a modern fresh look."
Athletic officials hope the new logo is just a start. The university recently purchased Chili Greens Golf Course and ever since then the speculation has been that UNO had big plans for the property.
Nothing has been decided but a new hockey arena may only be one of several athletic buildings on the grounds.
Mike Kemp says, "We're in that process looking over what we need, how it would look, how it would fit on the property and hopefully going out and working with the community to help us bring that to reality."
The old golf course is a long way from being changed into a UNO sports complex but the university is compiling a "wish list" of sorts for the sports teams that will be located there.
Jimmy DiPrima started hearing the rumors almost as soon as he opened Jimmy D's three years ago. He chose the location because he liked the idea of Aksarben Village.
With the very real prospect of the Maverick hockey team playing home games just a few blocks from his restaurant he knows this was the right choice.
Kemp says the university is looking at all options including the possibility of a community-university ice arena.
