A well known Omaha area baseball coach has landed a Division One position. Mike Evans has been hired as pitching coach for New Mexico State.
Evans told Channel Six News he will begin his new job July 1st . Evans will join former Oklahoma State coach Gary Ward and his son who coach the New Mexico State program in the WAC Conference.
Evans had been coach for Bellevue University for more than 20 years. He has filed a lawsuit against Bellevue University for defamation and other issues relating to a dispute with the athletic department over a player's transfer.
Bellevue officials have denied the allegations.
At New Mexico State Evans said he plans to turn around a pitching staff that had one of the highest ERA's in the conference.
