A new facility aimed at assisting homeless veterans in the Heartland is in the works.
It's called "Vets Town" and is modeled after Boys Town.
The project would serve as temporary housing for veterans in Omaha.
UNL Athletic Director Tom Osborne will serve as President of the Board of Governors.
Mike Fornear who helps run the Homeless Veterans Project, is hoping this facility will be a blueprint for the rest of Nebraska.
“It'll be as big as Nebraska wants it to be,” says Fornear.
“Tom Osborne doesn't ask people to get involved with causes very often but he's asked the state as a whole to join him in ending veteran homelessness".
There were more than 600 vets in Omaha were homeless last year.
Organizers are hoping to raise $3 million dollars for the project and have it up and running in the next six months.
