New Sentencing Date in Nebraska Hate Crime Hoax Case

A judge has again delayed the sentencing of a Nebraska woman who pleaded no contest to faking an anti-gay hate crime.

Charlie Rogers now faces sentencing on April 18 instead of March 14 in Lancaster County Court. Her original sentencing date was Feb. 14.

Judge Gale Pokorny said Wednesday that he has to read at least 850 pages of reports before sentencing Rogers.

Rogers, a former University of Nebraska basketball player, had reported being attacked by three men who carved anti-gay slurs into her arms and stomach. She later was charged with filing a false report, a misdemeanor.

Rogers maintains her innocence, but her attorney has said Rogers doesn't want a court fight.

The 34-year-old Rogers faces up to a year in jail.
