The Blackstone Improvement District in Midtown is trying to take a cue from the success of Dundee and Benson. First order of business: plans to change a stretch of Farnam Street from one-way to two way.
On Thursday, 40 property owners will decide whether to go forward with the plan that would run from 36th to 42nd Street. It would mirror the Farnam lane changes of Midtown Crossing -- two-lanes westbound and one-lane eastbound.
Business owners believe if the road is turned to two-way, the neighborhood becomes more pedestrian friendly.
Brad Iwen of Iwen Exposures at 40th and Farnam is one of the owners leading the charge. "This used to be one of the most important and vibrant districts in all of Omaha -- and when it went to one-way -- a lot of the businesses died out."
If property owners support the plan -- a simple majority is needed -- the change-over to two-way traffic on Farnam is expected by Spring.
