Pottawattamie County Deputies are trading in their old rides for new, top of the line, four wheel and all wheel drive vehicles.
Most of the new vehicles are Ford Explorers. Sheriff Jeff Danker tells Channel 6 News in the past departments have had to choose between the “go anywhere” four wheel drives and “pursuit rated” quicker vehicles.
With the new purchases they did not have to compromise.
Sheriff Jeff Danker says, “That has been a real plus for us. We purchased some of the Explorers last year, we’ve had them in service for a year and they’ve worked really well.”
The sheriff points out that there are nearly 1,000 square miles of Pottawattamie County his deputies have to patrol and that could not be done without all wheel drive. Having those same vehicles be “pursuit rated” means they can catch suspects who try to avoid capture.
