Nebraska's Third Set Of Quintuplets Born In Omaha

Five newborn babies are making Nebraska history.

A Sioux City couple recently had quintuplets at Methodist Women's Hospital.

This is only the third set of quintuplets born in the state.

As Jose Garcia wheels his wife, Bianca, around Methodist women's hospital, the soft-spoken couple is still unreeling.

On July 25th, they made five additions to their family.

“She had texted me earlier saying, 'Hey, I think the babies are going to be born today,' and then like 20 minutes later when the doctor called me, I'm like 'Yup!'” recalls Jose.

Carrying five children had its complications.

Bianca spent 13 weeks on bed rest, including 10 at the hospital.

However, now, four girls and a boy have been brought into the world.

The girls are Marah, Arleth, Jimena, and Rosalyn. The boy is named Christobal.

The babies were born after only 28 weeks.

At birth, weights ranged from two pounds to two pounds and six ounces.

They've had some issues breathing.

They'll be staying a few months at Methodist Women's Hospital to avoid any more complications.

Dr. Brady Kerr, Neonatologist at Methodist Women's Hospital says, “Obviously, that's our priority right now is keeping them healthy and getting them to grow.”

With two boys at home already, the Garcias will have a full house soon, but say friends and family are ready to help.

First though, it's just one day at a time.

“I think right now, it's just getting them healthy just so we can get them home. That's what we're worried most about right now. Later on, I guess we'll just see how they grow," says Bianca.

Previous sets of quintuplets were born in 1998 and 2009.
