A 50-year-old Lincoln man has been sent to prison for using counterfeit $20 bills while trying to buy money orders that he says he needed to pay court fines.
Danny Hardison had pleaded no contest to forgery. On Tuesday Hardison was given two to four years in prison and credited for 210 days already served while awaiting trial.
Lincoln police say officers confronted Hardison about the bills he tried to use April 18 at a Wal-Mart store. A store employee had noticed that the 20 bills had only three different serial numbers among them.
Police say Hardison told the officers he wanted to buy two $200 money orders to pay fines he owed to Lancaster County Court.
