Nebraskan Accused Of Hospital Threats Faces Trial

A May trial has been scheduled for a 31-year-old Sutton man accused of threatening personnel at Henderson Community Hospital in eastern Nebraska.

Joseph Palensky has pleaded not guilty to one count of felony terroristic threats. The charge carries a maximum prison term of five years.

Palensky is accused of walking into the hospital on July 21, armed with a gun and knife and looking for a specific doctor. The doctor was not on duty at the time, but officials say Palensky threatened a nurse and other employees.

Members of the sheriff's department persuaded Palensky to surrender his weapons and then placed him in emergency protective custody because of his comments about suicide. He was jailed later.

Palensky's trial is scheduled to begin May 14.
