Nebraska Property Tax Credit Shrinks Again

Nebraska homeowners will continue receiving state help with their property tax bills this year, but the credits will shrink again.

State officials said Tuesday that homeowners will receive $75.31
in credits for every $100,000 in property value in 2011.

That's down from the $78.91 credit owners received in 2010 and the $82.22 credit in 2009.

The state commits $115 million a year to the property tax credits. But that money is split between all the eligible properties in the state, so when property values increase or more homes are built, the credit for each owner gets smaller.
