An issue now before the Nebraska legislature would provide two things for every student, the American flag and the Pledge of Allegiance.
The bill would apply to grades K-12. As it stands now, LB 990 would provide the opportunity, but not require a student to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
Students at Bryan High in Omaha already recite the Pledge every morning. Some students believe it's a sign of respect, while others believe some high schoolers don't care.
"But, if we show them that we think it's important, they'll consider some of the aspects of being a member of a larger society," said ROTC instructor Mark Strehle.
