Nebraska Offers Training To Rural Law Enforcement

Nebraska state officials are offering training to help rural law enforcement respond to people who are suffering a mental health crisis.

The Department of Health and Human Services and professional law enforcement trainers produced an online training video designed to help officers defuse situations involving a person with mental health problems. The department says mental health issues account for 3 to 7 percent of all law enforcement calls

Scot Adams, the director of state's Behavioral Health Division, says the training is designed to help officers resolve crises in the least traumatic way possible.
