Nebraska Criminal History Background Checks Now Available Online

In Nebraska, it used to take 3 to 10 days to get a criminal background and history on someone after it was requested in person or by mail or fax. Now, the Nebraska State Patrol has announced a new automated service where a criminal history and records check would be in an instant.

“This new service will allow citizens with computer access and the proper information to request a name only criminal history check anytime day or night,” said Gov. Dave Heineman. “This is just one more example of how state government is providing more efficient, faster services for our citizens.”

“More than 75 percent of the individuals who request name only criminal history checks do not have a criminal background,” said Col. David Sankey, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “By automating this service, those individuals will receive an immediate response. At the same time we will speed up the process for others whose request may need more research.”

The site requires a logon and users must fill out a form for the requested information. The cost is $18.00.

In 2012, the Nebraska State Patrol processed 33,337 requests for name only criminal history background checks. Since 2009, more than 128,000 requests have been processed.
