Nebraska Cattle Numbers Are Down

The number of cattle in Nebraska is down. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says in a report released Friday that there were about 2.4 million cattle in the state on February 1st. That inventory is down four percent from the same time last year.

The department's National Agriculture Statistics Service says that number is for feedlots with capacities of 1,000 or more head.

Nationwide, the number of cattle on feed also is down. The USDA says on February 1st there were 11.1 million head of cattle for feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 or more. That's six percent below the same time last year.
