Just as Omaha Beer Week 2013 begins comes this bit of good news for local beer fans. Nebraska Brewing Company, a brewery based in Papillion, is expanding. A second facility is being added to expand the company’s capacity from 1,500 barrels per year to 6,500.

The new facility will ultimately be able to product 50,000 barrels per year.

It will also include a tasting room and retail space. Eventually brewery tours will be offered as well.

Nebraska Brewing Company says the expansion has been years in the making. The second facility will be a brewhouse and canning line that will produce 12 oz. products and 750 ml Reserve Series barrel aged beers.

Several sites are being considered. Kim Kavulak, Vice President of Nebraska Crewing Company, says the site chosen will likely be within Sarpy County. She says equipment is expected to be delivered in June and the facility should be operating by late summer 2013.

The products initially slated for rollout in the 12 oz. cans include the brewery’s Brunette Nut Brown Ale, EOS Hefeweizen, Cardinal Pale Al, and India Pale Ale. All other beers that are currently in production will also be brewed and available in draft kegs only.

The Reserve Series line will be expanded from five brands to seven with the additions of brandy barrel aged Belgian Quad, Responsibly, and brandy barrel aged Russian Imperial Stout, Sexy Betty.

Nebraska Brewing Company was established in 2007.
