NAACP Honors Community Standouts At Banquet

The Freedom Fund Banquet at CoCo Key Resort honored Dr. Ayman El-Mohandes, Dean of UNMC College of Public Health and retired United Way executive, Jamesena Moore.

Dr. rank Peak, recently retired from Creighton University, Mrs. Tommie Wilson of Metro Community College both received the 2011 Freedom Fighter Award.

UPS received the 2011 Corporate Award. The Black Family Health and Wellness Association was given the 2011 Community Service Award, and OPS superintendent Dr. John Mackiel was presented the 2011 Spirit of Equity Award.

Actor John Beasley was there to introduce PBS talk show host Travis Smiley who was a speaker at the event.

The banquet is the main fundraiser and source of support for the local NAACP branch.
