A man accused in the 1980 murder of an Omaha woman plead guilty in Douglas County Court Wednesday morning.

Oscar Hernandez entered a plea of guilty to charges of manslaughter and use of a weapon to commit a felony. He was picked up in August 2012 at a jail in New Mexico after more than 30 years on the run.

Hernandez murdered 29-year-old Vickie DeAnda in an apartment at 24th and Oak in September 1980. Her body was found tucked inside of a closet.

Hernandez, who had a relationship with DeAnda, was pinned with the crime after his fingerprint was found at the crime scene. A murder warrant with his name on it went out five days after DeAnda's body was found, but he managed to evade police for years, causing the case to go cold.

Hernandez was arrested for illegally entering the country in New Mexico and subsequently booked for murder after a hit on his fingerprint came back to Omaha.

He will be sentenced in April.
