The driver of a stolen car who led State Patrol on a multi-county chase Saturday morning is an escaped inmate who walked away from work release in August. The chase started in Lincoln and ended in Omaha after the driver crashed into a parked van.

Officers say it all began when 32-year-old Joshua Peterson was behind the wheel of a black Honda and was caught speeding, but kept on going. Officers then found out the car was stolen.

The chase went from Lincoln, through Sarpy County and ended in Omaha. During the chase a couple patrol cars were damaged.

The chase finally ended at 60th and Camden after Peterson allegedly crashed into a parked van and lost his front left wheel. Peterson was taken into custody, then to the hospital for injuries.

Peterson walked away from work release in Lincoln on August 14th.

Another inmate, 33-year-old Jan Hoxie also walked away from work release and remains on the loose.

Peterson was serving time for theft charges that occurred in Douglas County.

Both Hoxie and Peterson were near the end of their sentences.

They are also wanted for questioning in a carjacking that happened in Lincoln near 24th and R on September 8th.
