A 37-year-old man is facing felony child abuse charges because his wife and two of his kids were riding in the back of a moving van.
The Grand Island Independent reports Brad Behnke and his wife Jeanna Behnke are both facing charges after last Friday's incident. Jeanna Behnke is charged with child neglect.
The truck Behnke was driving on I-80 was stopped because someone reported children were riding in the back.
The Nebraska State Trooper a 6-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy sitting on a mattress in the back of the truck with Jeanna Behnke. The trooper smelled marijuana, and Jeanna Behnke admitted smoking the drug.
The lawyer appointed to represent Brad Behnke declined to comment Tuesday because he is withdrawing. A new lawyer will be appointed later.
