It's an unwanted trend at another metro hot spot - more crime near the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge.
The pedestrian bridge area is well traveled, day and night; however, Channel Six News has received complaints about what happens when it gets dark.
Joseph Kurtz said earlier this month when he was walking home on the bike trail at night, he was assaulted by two men.
"Somebody grabbed the back of my shirt that I was wearing and pulled me to the ground. And the only thing I remember was the kicking or hitting on my head, I don't know what they did to my body," said Kurtz.
The assault was bad enough for Kurtz to be taken to the hospital.
"I ended up in the ICU at St. Joseph Hospital," said Kurtz.
Not all crimes have been as severe as this, but even the smaller crimes send a bad message. For example, just over a week ago a vending machine was smashed in.
Most areas are pretty well lit on the bridge. But other places, like down on the bike path, can get pretty dark especially when the sun goes down
Kurtz said he has put in a complaint with the city.
"Why wasn't there some type of lighting for the safety of people for that time of the evening. Which if you are on Abbott drive, there is plenty of lighting for the automobiles, but why not the bike trail when there is always people in that area," said Kurtz.
