U.S. Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt announced Wednesday that the
Southern District of Iowa collected $9.6 million in Fiscal Year 2011 related to criminal and civil actions.
Of this amount, $2.8 million was collected in criminal actions, with restitution payments returned to the victims of crime, and $2.7 million was collected in civil actions.
Additionally, the office collected just over $4 million in criminal and civil forfeitures. Of the forfeited assets, $246,070 was returned to crime victims and $944,900 was shared with state and local law enforcement agencies.
“During this time of economic recovery, these collections are more important than ever,” said U.S. Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt.
