Mishap With Truck Carrying Radioactive Waste Closes Highway

A mishap involving a flatbed truck carrying low-level radioactive waste shut down a section of Nebraska Highway 2 in Lincoln on Saturday.

The truck was heading eastbound when the driver made a sudden stop, causing the truck's nearly 9-ton load of low-level radioactive waste to slide forward into the truck's cab. LFD Fire Battalion Chief Jeanne Pashalek said the driver was not injured when the load shifted, but the cab was damaged.

Pashalek said the waste did not spill and did not pose a risk to the public.
