A midday metro robbery last weekend left a local restaurant filled with terrified customers and employees.
It happened on Sunday at the 72nd and Lake Street McDonald's at 12:28 p.m.; not the time or place anyone expected to see a trio of robbers.
Two armed men, with their faces covered, ran in, displayed a weapon and took one of the managers to the back of the store. The robbers were heading for the safe and they did grab cash but in their haste, left some of it behind.
The third man, a lookout, kept watch on the front door. A customer with his child tried to leave but was ordered back. He was forced to sit through the robbery with his hands up.
Robin Griffith heard about the crime and she had been in that store not long before it happened.
"I was there about an hour before and was with my four-year-old son," she said. "My first thought was I'm never brining my kid in this area again. My second thought was I'm glad nobody got hurt."
Kim Black works in the area and told us, "My concern is for people who live in the neighborhood. Cars getting broken into. You don't know if they're gonna rob, break-in a house as well. I've been working in the area for about eight years. This McDonalds has been robbed several times."
Robin sees the crime as a sign on the times in the metro.
"I think the crime here in Omaha just seems to be getting worse and worse," she said. "That, overall, kind of concerns me."
Police are still looking for the robbers. They believe they got away in a silver Chrysler. If you know anything about the crime you're asked to call police.
