Memorial Fund Set Up For Crash Victim

A memorial fund has been set up to help a family deal with the tragic loss of their loved one in a crash on Friday.

The Kathryn Hardiman Memorial fund, set up at Wells Fargo, will help the family of Kate Hardiman pay for funeral costs and medical costs, related to the injuries of her son, 30-year-old Jason Newman. Jason was a passenger in Hardiman's vehicle. He has several broken ribs as a result of the crash and is being treated at the Nebraska Medical Center.

The accident happened around 4 p.m. Friday at 28th and Martha. Hardiman was headed west on Martha, when 26-year-old Raysheena Samuel was exiting Interstate 480 and the two collided. Samuel told police her brakes failed and she was unable to stop.

Hardiman died at the scene.

Samuel does not have insurance.

Police are still investigating what happened and will pass all findings on the the county attorney, who will decided whether Samuel will face charges.

Hardiman's funeral is planned for Thursday in Council Bluffs, with visitation Wednesday night.

Donations to the Kathryn Hardiman Memorial Fund can be made at any Wells Fargo Bank location.
