Medical Helicopter Needed For Crash Victim

An accident victim was airlifted from the scene Thursday evening, east of Lincoln in Cass County.

Cass County sheriff’s deputies, along with Elmwood Volunteer Fire and Rescue, responded to a two-vehicle injury accident at the intersection of Highway 34 and Highway 1, south of Elmwood at 6:47pm.

A green 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Jordan S. Hatfield, age 20, of Bennet, NE and front seat passenger Roxy A. Dunham, age 13, of Avoca were southbound on Highway 1 approaching the intersection with Highway 34. Hatfield made a left-hand turn (eastbound) onto Highway 34 and failed to yield to a westbound blue 2005 Chevy Impala driven by Matthew S. Garcia, age 20, of Louisville, advised Cass County Sheriff William C. Brueggemann.

The Cassgram reports Hatfield had to be extricated from his vehicle. StarCare Emergency Helicopter took him to Bryan LGH West Hospital in Lincoln with injuries.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene. All occupants of both vehicles were wearing safety restraints. Airbags in both vehicles were not deployed. Alcohol was not a factor, said the report.
