Update: Critically Injured Pedestrian Dies

The Omaha man struck by a car while crossing the street Thursday night died Friday night at Creighton University Medical Center.

Fifty-year-old Ronald Beckwith was hit while crossing Leavenworth near 38th Street, just blocks from his home. He suffered head and leg injuries.

A University of Nebraska Medical Center nurse helped Beckwith until paramedics arrived. The woman administered aid with the help of the driver who struck Beckwith. The driver, Kimberly Acker, was not cited.

“I came to work last night and police already had everything roped off.” Dan Bosiljevac arrived at Marylebone Tavern. “I drive that every morning coming back from the bank.”

Acker, a nursing student at UNMC, was heading eastbound on Leavenworth. Witnesses said she had the green light. “It's one of those things where you come up that hill pretty quickly and unfortunately I don't know if the lights aren't long enough,” said Bosiljevac.
