Meatpacking Lawsuit

A January trial has been set is a wage dispute at a Nebraska meatpacking plant.

Workers at Greater Omaha Packing Co. filed a federal lawsuit in
2008, accusing the plant of violating state and federal wage and
labor laws for years.

The lawsuits say production workers are paid only for time spent
on the actual production line. The workers are seeking pay for time
before and after assembly line work - time spent putting on
uniforms and safety gear, sanitizing equipment, sharpening knives
and other duties.

The company says in court filings that workers were paid appropriately.

A federal judge has ordered a trial to begin Jan. 17.

Similar lawsuits have been filed by workers at other Nebraska
meatpacking plants.
