After years of darkness, the lights are back on atop the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge. The lights stopped working soon after the bridge was dedicated in 2008. Repairs have been made along with several changes.
The lights are divided between the Big Red of Nebraska and the Hawkeye black and gold. And they just might be adding fuel to Friday's game between Nebraska and Iowa.
Mayors Jim Suttle of Omaha and Tom Hanafan of Council Bluffs met at the state line Wednesday morning to place a wager on the game. One thing is certain, there will be no losers with this bet. Omaha and Council Bluffs have been swept up in rivalry week and the winners will be the Habitat for Humanity chapters.
The wager is if Nebraska wins, Mayor Hanafan helps build two habitat homes in Omaha. If the Hawkeyes win, Mayor Suttle will build four habitat homes in Council Bluffs.
