Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle left the city Monday to make funeral arrangements for his mother who passed away Saturday evening. Wanda Suttle lived in St Albans, West Virginia. She was 87 years old.
A memorial service for Mrs. Suttle will be at 11am Wednesday at Casdorph & Currey Funeral Chapel in St. Albans. Burial will be at Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans.
Letters of condolences may be sent to Mayor Suttle at his City Hall address, which is 1819 Farnam St., Suite 300, Omaha, NE 68183.
Wanda Suttle is survived by her children Mayor Jim Suttle, Jan Suttle Johnson of Crownsville, Maryland, Jill Suttle Morrissett of King George, Virginia, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The mayor’s communications director, Aida Amoura said in a statement, “Mayor Suttle was very close to his mother and spoke proudly of her strong character and work ethic. The mayor credits his mom with his constant drive to do more as a businessman and as a public servant.”
Amoura says Wanda Suttle was raised on a farm near Hurricane, West Virginia where she graduated as valedictorian in 1940 from Hurricane High School. She graduated from Capitol City Commercial College with a major in accounting. She spent most of her professional accounting career at Tag Galleon Chrysler Plymouth and Landers Chevrolet.
She was a resident of St. Albans for more than 50 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of St. Albans.
