Police say two men and a woman were driving a truck with Iowa license plates through an alley looking for scrap metal. They stopped behind a house near 33rd and X. Someone inside yelled for them to leave the area. As the truck started to leave, a shot rang out.
The truck stopped a block away at 33rd and W Street and Aldopho Mora called 911.
"I got on the phone and I called them right now, don't wait you don't have time because if they don't come the guy may die." Mora said he could see the victim had a hole in his back.
The other man inside the truck tried to leave the area.
Jeffrey Long, who has his own security company, heard the commotion on his police scanner. He spied the man police were looking for near 30th and W.
"The guy, he jumped out in front of me, so as I do my own security, I jumped out, told the guy he needed to get down on the ground and I said we need to go back to that location. So I grabbed him, put him in my car, brought him back to the location."
Police took the man captured by Long and the woman, who never left the scene, in for questioning. As police continued their investigation into the shooting, it left residents like Mora shaking their heads after an inexplicable past 24 hours in her south Omaha neighborhood.
"Yesterday we had another shooting...crazy, I saw that, too. I was like, oh my God, this is a very nice neighborhood, like you wouldn't expect nothing here."
The shooting victim was later identified as 51-year-old Phillip Duncan of Omaha. He's hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
The gunman, 21-year-old Clifton Richardson of Omaha, faces charges of first-degree assault and use of a gun to commit a felony.
