Man Pleads Insanity After Standoff With Police

A man in McCook, NE charged in an October standoff has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

58-year-old Raymond Miley entered the plea Dec. 13 in Red Willow
County District Court and soon after a judge ordered a mental evaluation.

Miley is charged with attempted assault of an officer and use of
a deadly weapon in the Oct. 13 standoff.

Police surrounded Miley's house after he allegedly fired once on
officers who were attempting to check on his welfare. No one was
hit. An ensuing standoff lasted about eight hours before Miley gave
up.
