Sentencing January 30th for a 25-year-old Cass County man who pled no contest to two felony theft charges. The Cassgram reports the thefts occurred in late December or early January at Lake Waconda.
Jeremy R. Jakub of Lake Waconda had faced a total of eight criminal counts for the removal of items from garages on East Lake Drive and West Shore Drive eleven months ago. He made the two pleas as part of an agreement in which the other charges were dismissed.
In both incidents, the side doors to the garages were either pried open or forced open to gain access. Items taken from the garages included a 2002 Yamaha dirt bike motorcycle, several power tools, hand tools, construction equipment, an ammunition reloading kit for high powered rifles and canisters of gun powder.
Chief Deputy Cass County Attorney Colin Palm said the value of the items taken from one garage totaled about $6,000 and the other theft totaled between $1,000 and $1,500. The deputies investigating the thefts had questioned Jakub about the missing items at one point early in the investigation but he told them the items belonged to him. Investigators later received information to the contrary and Jakub then admitted he had stolen the items, said Palm. He has been free on bond since his arrest.
There is no agreement on sentencing. The convictions are Class III Felonies. Palm said there may be a demand for restitution made at sentencing.
